CCEE: Sewing Machine Day!

 Hi friends!

You are SEW awesome!

Lois is the hostess for the CCEE Stampers for the month of June
and tells us that today is National Sewing Machine Day!

She asked the team to make a card with some stitching on it --
either actual stitching, faux stitching or stitch-edged dies.
I've not yet ventured into real sewing on my cards!

It's funny ~ my mum spent YEARS as a seamstress
and has created beautiful gowns for many ladies.
She said she learned to sew as a small child,
and as a teen in a small shop on the outskirts of London.
Foom wedding dresses to bridesmaids, proms, quilts and dolls for charities.
She handmade all of my dresses and rompers when I was growing up
and just is so VERY talented!

Me?

I can't even sew in a straight line with a handle needle and thread!
So, I took the route of using a die with stitching
and a sewing theme, LOL!

I ran to Hobby Lobby this week
and was lucky to find a small sewing machine stamp set for $1.60!
I've used just the sewing machine from the Stampabilities set on this card today,
and the Sew Raggedy doll and button jar stamps from Craftin Desert Divas.
The stitched die is from My Favorite Things
and I waited a long time to add this to my collection!
It's one of MY favorite things :)
I set aside my normal prismamarkers and colored with promarkers
and really love the soft look they have.

You can see what the DT created this week ~
it'll have you in stitches! ♥
You can find them on the CCEE blog ← here
as well as link up your card, too, if you'd like to play along!

Thanks for stopping by!
Big hugs, bigger blessings ♥
~Kelly

  5. Such a cute card, and what a score to find a sewing machine stamp, and at a steal at that!

My mom sewed me a dress when I was in grade 4, and on my first day of wearing it to school, I fell and put a hole in the sleeve.

  7. This is so sweet, Kelly. The sentiment is wonderful along with the sewing machine and stitching on the card. My Mum sewed and knitted everything too, and yet it is one thing that I never took an interest in, even after having to take it at school in home economics!

  9. Such a precious card, Kelly!! That machine looks like my mother's 60 year-old Singer which she still uses to this day! I never had a store bought garment until Mother relented and bought me a pair of jeans in high school!

  14. What a sweet card, Kelly. My mother was a big star with the sewing machine too. She made me all my clothes and when my daughter was born, she taught me how to. For years we came one day a week to visit me and then we were making clothes. Now she is too old for the sewing machine and I love to buy things in stead of making them myself.

  15. So sweet and lovely. Sewing does seem to be losing popularity with the youngsters, but it can be quite rewarding. How fortunate to have such a talented mother.

  16. She is adorable and love the pretty colours. I used to love dressmaking. I made all my children's clothes, including winter coats. Also my clothes and quite a few bridesmaid dresses too. My mother came from a dressmaking family. Big hugs and blessings, Carol S.xxxx

  19. Your card is adorable! I love that stitching die... it's one of my many favs too! I can't sew in a straight line to save my life either.. never could! LOL I make my son help me with anything I need to have sewn - In fact recently I decided I wanted to make a cushion for my kitchen table bench... went and got the material and cushion piece... then tried everything else before I HAD to sew it... Made my son sew all 3 sides.. then I hand sewed the top to close it up... yup... my small contribution to helping with the sewing..... and you can tell my hand sewn top is crooked too! hahahaha Have a great day! :)

  21. Such a sweet card, the sewing machine does go well with the faux stitching. I am not much of a sewer either, but I do admire those who can! Great memories of your mother and all she sewed for you!

  22. Kelly, this is such a cute card. Sorry to be late with my comments. I have spent the week in Louisiana making health kits for UMCOR. My mom was a perfect seamstress but never had the patience to teach Lynn and I how to acquire those skills, as her machine and sewing scissors were "hands off" for us. LOL
