Hot Mess Success ~ Sending Smiles!

 Hi friends!

It's time for another "Hot Mess" card. 

where I create a card once a month using a messy technique.

So how messy did I get this month?

The mess went for miles and miles, LOL!

 

 

 I LOVE this technique to cardmaking!
I spotted a challenge on Splitcoaststampers months ago

and quickly created a card to match the sister version :) 

I'm basically casing my own card!

How is it messy?'

It's a tape technique!

It basically needs masking tape or painters tape 

and you put it directly onto the cardstock.

I chose 3 distress inks and rubbed them directly onto the tape ~

press the painters tape.

Color may very so you can always go over it with a second coat :)

The sending smiles sentiment is stamped in Momento

and I added a sentiment from Paper Smooches.

 

When you peel the painters tape back, make sure you roll it into a ball

and then toss it.

Otherwise the ink transfer is pretty dominant ~

ask me how I know :)

TPB ~ Father's Day Ride

Hi friends!

Today we're heading out on the paper highway

with a fun masculine Father's Day card!

Since I have 3 blog posts for today

(The Project Bin, Hot Mess and camp!), 

I'll post my Hot Mess ~ Success card tomorrow :)

 

 This fun card is using the remnant of card camp card ~
it was the first panel I made with 'make your own stripes."
I loved the way it turned out but didn't use it for the floral card
and wanted to use it for this card .

I've used quite a few distress inks 
and heat embossed them between each color layer.
For my main focal point image, 
the motorcycle is from The Project Bin Wild Thing stamp set.
The sentiment stamp is from Defined
and perfect for getting started on your Father's Day cards!

Shaded Stencils ~ Day 5!

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well ♥

Spring card camp is still going strong - and fast!

This camp is kicking my cardmaking up a few (hundred) notches!

It moves quick and it's easy to fall behind 

so I created these two cards while throwing a little shade.

As in ... Stencil Shading!

It was taught by Lydia (from SCS) and

here's. where. it. gets. funny!

After camp #1, I placed some orders for new toys and they've all arrived ...

except for one, which has the flower stencils in it.

But no biggie ~ we are in a quarantine and safety first!

I figure if that is the worst of it then I'm good!

I have quite a few stencils, but no florals so I had to improvise ...

so I used a notebook ~ an older one from my stash from The Dollar Tree.

The plastic covers are cut through and they look like a stencil

so why not!

When in Rome, amiright?

I went from this ↑

 And got this! ↓

I used Ranger Ink distress inks and Picket Fence Studio Life Changing Brushes

(the tiny ones for nooks and crannies)

and lightly blended through the stencil (notebook) area.

In order to keep the colors from blending together, 

I blocked it off as I blended to keep the colors separate.

The THANK YOU sentiment is from Concord and 9th

and I popped it up on 3D foam and added a few sequins.

I love that these are made from things I had right here at home :)

Stamp What?! ~ Pattern of Friendship!

Hi friends!

This is my card for the Stamp What?! card group ~

started by my teenage son :)

Nope, he's not IN it, just INSPIRED it!

Back in the day, I used a lot of my Stampin' Up! stamp sets ...

the old wooden ones that sat upon a shelf 

and earning the secured name of "Old Dusties!"

 

As per each month, I'm showing the stamp set, too!

I'm not using stamped images and own the actual stamp sets. 

 I never know which one he is going to take down

 from the shelf and surprise me with.

Each month, it's way WAY fun! 

 

 This month, he chose Pattern of Friendship ~

a sweet stamp set from 2006!

As almost always, I asked him how he choses ~

sometimes just grab and go to get back to his PS4, lol

Other times, he looks at them and picks for a reason, like this month.

He simply said "It looked like a couple of moms - and it's Mother's Day.'

That works for me!

I'm not super excited about my card this time 

but it was fun to ink it up again.

This is the front - using the two patterned dresses

and one of the sentiments 'Always in style!"

I've used an MFT Stamps Stitched rectangle corner die 

paper pieced her dress from these sheets in my stash and done!

My mom still has all her old McCalls patterns 

that she used to make most of my baby outfits and childhood dresses.

I remember growing up with her pinning those off-yellow, crinkly patterns

to material and cutting it out,

and then heading off to the sewing machine.

She still has them in an old box ...
I told her once 'those would fetch a price on eBay' ...

to which she replied "what's an eBay?"

LOL!

GRADuation cards ~ Day 4!

Hi friends!

Wishing you all a blessed and wonderful Mother's Day ~

if you're a Mama, Grandma, Auntie, Fur Mama, etc ...

I send you blessings for a wonderful day of celebrating YOU!

I have several cards to post 

including my Stamp What?! card ~ 

but catching up in order ...

Day 4 of the Spring Online Card Camp!

We have been celebrating non-stop since Friday

so it's been harder this time around getting my cards blogged!

For this class, we're using saying it with sentiments! 

This class was taught by Nina Marie

and I love that it uses up scraps most of all ~ right up my alley!

 I signed up on Facebook last month for a quarantine Art Club 
And the FB group asked us to send cards to graduates - anonymously :)

So many won’t have the chance to enjoy the graduation walk

or the pomp and circumstance that's the milestone for so many.

I've used Paper Smooches Smarty Pants sentiment

and kept it super simple using scraps and WOW Embossing white powder.

These cards were harder to put together than they look, LOL!

I had to get out the t-ruler and they are still a little wonky :)

For me, I had to ad-lib a little bit with the cutting ~

and I'll show you (a little tip!) the way I did it to make them (mostly) straight!

Eyeballing it - the far right was crooked ...

I just added washi tape to the back

then ran it through my trimmer to cut off the excess. 

It worked!

I'm devastated to see now that when I was photographing these yesterday,

a small drop of water landed on the card ~

it's long dried and the card is perfectly fine, LOL!
 

So we'll just pretend it's not there :)

 Such a fun to make and once you get the process rolling,

it's easy to make an assembly line of these! 

 That's card class #4!

I have another card to blog 

and then you'll see card class #5 :)

AAA: 1/3 - repeat stamping
The Paper Players - color challenge

3M: ConGRADulations!

Hi friends!

Today's a VERY special day!

My son-in-law graduated from Law School this morning - via Facebook live :)

We had a party for him last night

and a few hours ago, his drive by honking graduation parade!

 

We couldn't be more proud of his accomplishments 

and securing a wonderful job at a law firm last year.

Next step - passing the law bar in July!

 

Today is also the day we post our cards for the 3M card group.

Barb was the hostess for this month

and sent us this owl image from Taylored Expressions.

I decided to make a card for my son-in-law's parents

(I already gave him the one I made for him!)

and pop it in the mail.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but it's a shaker card :)

I added gold confetti left over from his graduation party we had last night.

The colors are from his Law School - blue and burgundy - 

so I used that as a base color.

On the inside, I've used another image from Taylored Expressions

that came with the image.

It says YOU did it - but honestly, it takes a village!

Without support, it's hard(er) to be successful.

Once a month, we sent an image to each other and we all create a card.

I just realized I didn't post my own last month!

I was sure I did but I was looking and looking and it's not here ~

which means I didn't do it and will have to get on that!

Be the Em-Boss! ~ Day 3

Hi friends!

There's paper,

there's embossing,

there's stencils ...

put them all together

and you get some pretty fancy backgrounds for cards!

 

 For Day 3 of online card camp, our homework was to create a card

but per my personal goal, I'm making 2!

At least that is the plan :)

For this set, I used my the Taylored Expressions stamp set

 called Beautiful Blossoms.

It's so lovely and has so many possibilities.

I did forget to add the matching dies to this one to my recent order ~

so I used my Scan N Cut ~ it didn't cut it out exactly perfect but that's okay :)

For the sentiment, I've used TE Simple Strips - Friendship.

All lined up ~ Day 2

Hi friends!

It's Day 2 of Online Card camp - 

and I got my cards done earlier today and edited them at the 11th hour :)

This class was taught by Jennifer McGuire 

and her theme was Make Your Own Stripes!

My IG friends and I are continuing Camp #2

and we've all decided to keep making 2 cards for each class :)

Each day, for 20 days, we'll make our cards and it moves fast!

CCEE2019: Fiesta like there's no mañana!

Hi friends!

  Fiesta like there’s no mañana!   

(party like there's no tomorrow!)

I'm excited to be the hostess for the month of May

at the CCEE Stampers blog!

Through-out this month, I'll be proposing challenges ~ like this one!

 Tuesday was Cinco de Mayo,

so let’s continue the celebration with anything fiesta! 

Create a card sing the the word fiesta or the colors *red, green and yellow* 

or piñatas, sombreros, etc. 

 Feel free to simply create a celebration card in lieu of fiesta if you need to!

My card this week is using a Hero Arts stamp stamp set

called It's Fiesta Time ~ I just love that puppy in his sombrero!

 I've used the colors of Mexico for the base of my card and 

just layered it with a wonky placement.

I stamped/colored the pup image and added a fiesta sentiment.

Marvelous masking ~ Day 1

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing super!
I had a small biking accident over the weekend

and am supposed to be on limited bed rest.  

Impossible, I say!

So I'm calling it limited bed rest

and I'm so glad my friends live in my computer - all of you!

that I signed up for the continuing camp!

This morning's class with Kristina Werner was fun ~
new to me supplies and technique!

One Plus Twelve - May!

 Hi friends!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

It's a nice, quiet Sunday here for us 

and my daughter and I are enjoying watching musicals :)

We're the only 2 in the family that enjoy them

so it's a singing kind of afternoon! 

Which makes for a beautiful day!

 

 Today is the day that I post my card for the One Plus Twelve - 

an idea I had last year to take one stamp

~ and just one stamp ~

and use it all year long, creating twelve cards, one for each month!

The idea came to me when I realized many of my stamps

were never seeing ink or getting much use.
It's been a creative, adventurous process ... that's for sure!

This year, I chose My Favorite Things Beautiful Bloom 

and I chose it because it matches my Word Of The Year: Bloom ♥

For this month's card, I had an image of what a nice card idea would be.

A nice contrast with a black and white stamped image

 with a colorful one opposite but I wasn't too crazy about the outcome!

So I did the next best thing ~

designer paper!

That's what we have it for, amiright!

LOL!

And I actually really like how it turned out!

From The 30 Day Coloring Challenge!

 

I have to say - this was amazing!

It took forever and the first set of cards spelled disaster :)

But try and try again - and I ended up with 3 cards!

Here are 2 of them ↓ 

For this flower card, I used Altenew Best Mom 

and the sentiments are from an MFT Stamps set.

I heat embossed them with WOW Embossing powder 

and popped them up on foam tape.
