Hi there! If you've ever visited my blog before, you'll probably already know that I am a voracious reader! Books are one of my greatest loves :)
And I just think this world was made so much brighter thanks to Dr. Suess ~
I think every day should be a little Suess-ical!
So imagine my glee when LJ's (our hostess this month!) Dueling Darling kit arrived in my mailbox with the wonderful theme:
January is "Book Blitz Month".....use a stamp with books and/or reading as a theme. We would also like to then add in your post who your favorite author is, or your favorite book and why.
:::: Squeal! ::::
I just love this kit so much! Thank you, LJ! The Dueling Darlings are back again! The Divas received this wonderful image & papers and I tried to use as much of the dsp that you sent, along with a small card which reminded me of the library cards of the past :) *Raise your hand if you remember the library card catalog file drawers!* I chose the stamped image in rich cocoa to keep the colors uniform and added the leftover smaller pieces to the inside, keeping it blank. I adore this image + old fashioned look to it :)
card front! |
card inside - left blank for future use! |
Answering who my favorite author is a little bit tricky for me ;)
That's like asking which of my 4 is my favorite child, LOL!! (I jest!)
Being an English Lit minor in under-grad college, I adore authors like
Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austen ...
I secretly grew up wanting to marry Mr. Darcy :) *swoon*
A few from my list of favorite authors:
I love books that make me cry (Nicholas Sparks, Kristin Hannah),
books that I can't put down: (Suzanne Collins, John Green, John Hart)
books that make a statement: (Jodi Picoult, Mitch Albom, Lauren Oliver)
books with a foreign theme: (Lisa See, Adriana Trigiana)
I could go on and on!
But instead, how about you see what my team Divas created using this identical image and paper! You can find them in my sidebar as well as the girls of team Dazzlers! You won't be disappointed!
Big hugs,
Bigger Blessings!
~Kelly

Not only do I remember the library card catalog, but I have one for storage in my crafting space!!
ReplyDeleteThis card really touches my heart, Kelly, since I come from a family of readers, too!! I love every perfect detail!!
Kelly, your card is AMAZING!!! Love the darling image LJ sent and wow!!! All those papers are placed perfectly on your card. Love the inside, too. You are always an inspiration to me!
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised you couldn't pick a favorite, by the way. I might have been disappointed if you had. ;)
Thanks for dueling!
How cute! I love the little girl reading and your papers are perfect. I remember the card catalog, I used to spend my summers in our local library devouring everything I could get my hands on!

ReplyDeleteLove this precious card! Just makes me want to grab a book and start reading! I read too much as it is probably - but there just always seems to be one more great book out there!

What a sweet image Kelly, this and your wonderful use of yellow teamed with the other colors is so cheerful. I go through phases with reading, and can go ages without reading a thing. I brought my hubby a kindle for our anniversary last year as he reads heaps. However he has questioned who I brought it for as so far I have used it more than him....lol
ReplyDeleteKelly--your card is stunning! I love the layout and all of the papers that you were able to use! Yes--I am raising my hand!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are a part of the Dueling Darlings!
Raising my hand, Kelly! Yeah, I remember will those old library cards. Super duper card! You really created a delightful design with all those patterned paper and love your brightly colored little miss bookwarm plunked front and center!! Great list of books...Kristin Hannah is one of my fav authors too!
ReplyDeleteRaising my hand! I remember card catalogs and using the Dewey Decimal System! :) Beautiful card, Kelly! You did such a great job using all the elements of this kit. And yes, as soon as I saw the theme, I thought it would be right up your alley! Thanks for sharing some of your favorite genres of books and authors in each. HUGS, kadie
ReplyDeleteThis is just a darling image!! Great card! Carri~Abusybee
ReplyDeleteYes, the card system is right up there with Dewey Decimal!
ReplyDeleteI love how much of the kit you were able to use. I must work on that aspect of the challenges.
You featured the sweet image and colors perfectly.
Now only to be able to read as fast as you can!
Inside and outside, I love everything about this card!! And, yes, as a school library assistant in Grade School, Jr High and High School, I certainly remember lots of things "librarian"!!! Loved getting a glimpse into your favorite authors too!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Love this card Kelly - the image is perfect - and how I spent most of my childhood I might add!
ReplyDeleteThe colours are beautiful and the layout fabulous.
Blessings
Maxine
So sweet and soft...and I have to admit I can tell you which of my 2 kids is my favorite! LOL! I know once my 11 month old gets past this very long stage, we will some day get along ;)
ReplyDeletevery cute! I love your Dr. Seuss quote :)
ReplyDeleteYour card is wonderful. I love how you layered the inside. Hugs :)
Beautiful card Kelly ~ I love all the layers (you are such the expert at that!)
ReplyDeleteRaising hand on the library card catalogs ~ I would LOVE to get my hands on one some day ~ We have a store downtown in Madison called "Anthology" and they have one that they use to store merchandise in, they have the drawers labeled by type. So fun going there and opening up the drawers to see what is inside, I think it would be a great way to store crafting supplies and still look like a normal piece of furniture!
Glad you liked the kit and it brought back some good memories :)
Hugs ~ LJ
Oh Kelly, I love how you used this kit...love the layout and how you colored the image. I love how you used so much of the awesome dsp and your inside is great as well...I also love your list of authors...(many I enjoy as well_)....and My hand is raised high and I am standing on tip toes so you can see it...I do remember those library card catalog file drawers......great job on this card...((hugs))....♥
ReplyDeleteRaising hand! I wish I had a card catalog...lol
ReplyDeleteYour card is just beautiful!
Can this card be anymore sweet?!! Nope, nope it does not get cuter than this. I love how your cards are always gorgeous inside and out.... beautiful color palette on this one!
ReplyDeleteThis is so super adorable! i do love the image....so vintage looking and I love that you incorporated all of those pretty papers including your take on the library card. Brilliant! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your card. She could be me as a girl! I had to smile when I was reading this as I am re-reading Pride & Prejudice now, and Colin Firth will forever be my "Mr. Darcy". You would appreciate my Jane Austen group (JAPSNA) as it is a group of us who adore Jane and we get together for movies, books, tea parties (hats and all)etc. Last year we were able to go to the Morgan Museum to see her letters. What a great time, followed by tea.
ReplyDeleteI credit my mom for my love of reading as we always read together. One great thing about my Kindle is I am carrying so many novels with me.
You should teach classes on how to use paper! It's amazing and always looks fabulous. I love the image and agree that every day should be a little Suess-ical. :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Terry
Fabulous card and wonderful composition and colors! I do remember the library catalog file drawers and struggling with Dewey!
ReplyDeleteEeeekkkkssss! This image is so perfect for you- and I LOVE the library card and of course you are the queen of combining DSP! LOVE! your card : )
ReplyDeleteThis is so you! Just finding out recently that you're an avid reader. I love the image and your fabulous layout.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I am an avid reader too and can't understand how anyone else isn't. lol. I have pics of my kids deep in a book like that.
ReplyDeleteLove your quote! I love "I can Read With My Eyes Shut". When I was a media clerk, I would read that book to the kids on Dr.Seuss Day. I did shut my eyes to read and the kids asked if I was really read it. Of course, I would say. Of course, I had read the book so many times I knew the story so that helped.
ReplyDeleteWonderful card. This image is just sweet and your coloring of it wonderful. I really like the way you fanned and layered the pieces of DP. Cute Dr. Seuss quote. I had never heard it before.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most wonderful card! The image is so sweet and the numbered paper reminds me of the old library check out cards.
ReplyDeleteAs far as remembering the card catalogs, I would love to have one of the old cabinets!
Oh...Mr Darcy...sigh! How can you NOT love Jane Austen?!
