CCEE1747 ~ Celebrations!

It's almost the weekend  ~ woot, woot!

It's also time for a brand new challenge at the CCEE Stampers.

Joanne is our hostess this week and gave us this challenge:

As the last of our celebratory month, I would like you to make a baby card OR a wedding card……your choice. 
(If you have lots of time, you could make both….lol!!!) 

Oh Joanne, you are a hoot!

I went with a baby card using the sweet little sheep from

Gerda Steiner stamps.

This was actually my very first GS stamp set ♥

The little sheep are so versatile,

so I pulled two of them out and added them to a pink dsp themed base.

They are popped up on 3D foam and lightly colored with prismacolor markers.

The banner and heart are cut from MFT dies.

{Happy} Cinco de Mayo craft! ;-)

In just a few more days, it will be Cinco de Mayo!

(otherwise known as the 5th of May - LOL!)

 Having had the blessing of growing up in many countries in Europe,

I learned at a very early age to appreciate the value of other cultures, 

language immersion and celebrating the gift of their customs ♥

It was incredibly enriching as child to experience

many different communities and ways of life ~

Spanish tapas, German architecture, French literature!

It has given me that lifelong sense of adventure ♥
Now, as a mommy of 4, I try to incorporate that every chance I get :)
I speak to them in 4 languages (though they only answer in 1!)
love cooking them foods from other countries,
and adore making homemade crafts from all over the globe ...
like these Cinco de Mayo sombreros!

I've been a room parent for 100 years! so many years :)
More often than not, the classroom budget
 didn't have a lot of wiggle room for crafts and extras,
 so crafting on a budget can be economical, smart and fun!
  This week, my daughter's pre-Kindergarten class will be making these,
so I thought I'd show you a sample of a idea you can use this week, too! 
 
They are really like little mini piñatas!
Super easy, tons of fun!

 For these, I made a quick trip to Party City
for yellow paper cups and plates.  
I don't recommend the plastic "Solo" cups - they melt if you use hot glue
and the kids can't rip them open/lift them up like the paper cups.
(sidenote:  they also carry these cups/plates at some Dollar Trees/Dollar Stores) 
    The other items used are:
 pipe cleaners,
 pom poms
fast drying glue (all of these at Michaels, Target, etc)
and small candy/toys for filling, like Oriental Trading or Party City.

Construction is easy enough that the kids can create this with ease.
Each child is given a handful of candy or toys and they fill their cup.

(be mindful of the little ones and make sure it's age appropriate!
Our schools here DO allow candy, some schools do not :)


While the cup is still right side up, adhere some fast drying glue
to the rim, flip it onto the already decorated pom-pom filled plate,
and glue it down.  
While it's drying, you can fasten the pipe cleaners to the
bottom of the cups (to create a faux hat band) and just twist into place,
then snip off any excess.
Once it's dry, each child can shake the sombrero,
transport it home, and have a surprise inside little Cinco de Mayo gift!

made ahead as party favors and boxed up for transport!
