CCEE: BBQ Grillin' time!

Hi friends!

I'm still grillin' and the bbq'ing continues!
Although I'm vegetarian,
there's been a lot of hamburger on my blog this week :D
The new challenge this week at the CCEE Stampers
our last challenge for May from our hostess, Frances.

Sadly, we have had a sad loss this week with our CCEE DT friend, Joanne.
She passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning
and was much loved by the stamping community.
I am certain her family would love a prayer of support
as she will be dearly missed by many.

Frances has chosen a fun theme this week!

May is apparently Barbecue Month and the 28th May is Hamburger Day….
Let's think BBQ's and/or Hamburgers when creating our cards this week.

For today's fun card, I used Art Impressions Grill Father.
This was gifted to me quite some time ago from a dear friend
and it's sat in a little folder - until now!
It was fun to color it up and create a fun card for my daughter's Father-in-Law.

Don't tell him ......
but it looks just like him!
Right down to the socks and light blue guayabera :)
He is truly one of the kindest and beautiful souls I've encountered.

When I met him for the first time,
it was actually in an emergency situation
and we met in the middle of the road in front of their home.
My driver's window rolled down, his driver's window rolled down,
we waved and introduced ourselves and he said to me ...

because the words still ring in my ears ...

"See behind you?"

I looked and nodded.

"That's your house."

I nodded again, a little surprised.

"Mi casa es siempre tu casa!"
(my house is your house, always!)

Ah! Makes me teary eyed just remembering!
It's an unusual way to meet someone for the first time,
but it always reminds me of how unique people can be/meet :)

I returned the favor the first time they came to our home for dinner ~
opening our door to his/wife's huge hugs and welcoming smiles.
I simply said ..

"Welcome home!"

Back to my card!

I've created a clean and simple card ~
colored with my prismacolor markers and set onto a solid base of designer paper.
I won't be giving this card to the FIL directly,
I'll let my daughter give it to him - from her! :)

If you head over to the CCEE Stampers challenge blog,
you can link up your hamburger/grilling cards, too!
You'll also see the amazing cards from the DT - they are delightful!

Thanks for stopping by!
Big hugs, bigger blessings ♥
~Kelly

I'll enter my card into:  Cute Card Thursday - masculine!

Grillin' Time! {Riley and Company Challenge}

Hi friends!!

I hope you are enjoying the splendors of Summer!   Each weekend, our neighbor's have been firing up their BBQ's, not unusual for South Florida ~ with our glorious year round weather, we see (and smell!) the grills often.
But there's something about Summer that says fire up the grill :)
And with my family of carnivores, they say there is nothing like a burger, 'dogs, steaks and ribs from on the grill.
Me, being a vegetarian, will have no part in that, lol!
But I absolutely ADORE my veggies on the grill - give me some eggplants, corn, squash, zucchini (etc) grilled to perfection ... it's a slice of heaven!

The challenge this week at Riley and Company is to make a card or project
with food or drinks and is hosted by DT member, Joy.
I stamped and colored my BBQ Riley and I wanted to make a 4th of July
card since that's one of the main things we do before fireworks and festivities.
Oh the memories this evokes ♥

I also followed the sketch from Mojo Monday this week:

We'd love for you to play along! To enter the challenge, create a card/project
using Riley and Company images.
You can find our challenge blog here
as well as the DT inspirational cards.

Once you have created your card/project, come back here and place a comment with a link to your card/project to this post so we can see what you have created. If you upload your card/project to Splitcoast Stampers please include the keyword Riley1314.
We can't wait to see what you create!

 As Always,
Big hugs, Bigger Blessings!

Get your grill on!

Good morning!!  By the time this posts, we'll most likely be on the monorail heading into the Magic Kindgom - not grilling! :)  But what a fun theme for this month's Dueling Darling card kit duel!  Our hostess this month, Tami, sent us this fantastic-ly fun kit with a Whipper Snapper Grill Sargeant image and a plethora of wonderful emellies and cute papers! I chose the red/picnic themed color palette to make a fun summer-ish card and overall, I think it's pretty simple.  I wanted the Grill Sargeant to be the focal point, though I'm looking at my card now and see I forgot to color his spatula - so pretend you don't see that! *smile!*

The party theme continues on the inside! :)
Tami also asked us to include our favorite recipe from the grill.  Since I don't eat meat, one of my favorite items when dh is grilling is to add my veggies to the grill in a foil package or laid out on a skewer!  For me, it's a meal! I adore zucchini and summer squash - Yum!!  Here's one that I use often from my Weight Watcher recipes:

Instructions

  • Preheat grill or grill pan. Place vegetables on a cutting board and coat with cooking spray.

  • Grill vegetables, turning often, until lightly charred and tender, about 10 to 12 minutes. Remove to cutting board. Cut zucchini, squash and bell peppers into bite-size chunks. Separate onions into rings.

  • Place cooked vegetables in a large bowl and sprinkle with salt, pepper and chives; toss lightly. Serve warm or cold. Store leftovers for up to 4 days in the refrigerator. Yields about 1 cup per serving.

Wishing you a wonderful grill-filled week/end!  Be sure to see my sidebar to see what all the divas and dazzlers made with their Time for Grilling cards and I'll see you all on Tuesday!

Big hugs,

Bigger Blessings!

~Kelly~
