CCEE2024 AND Stamp What?! ~ Happy Father's Day!

Hi friends!

Today's post is pulling 'double duty' as I have just not had any free time

to make any cards except for a few minutes today!

Talk about a mad dash to the plate! :)

There's a new challenge at the CCEE Stampers with our sweet Vicki ~

make a Father's Day card.

The CCEE Stampers have made wonderful masculine cards this week and you can see them on the blog.

Yesterday was also the day for the Stamp What?! card challenge

to use an 'Old Dusty' stamp set from Stampin' up.

My son is the one who choses for me completely at random ~

and he's pretty good at looking through them and seeing ones that 'fit the bill.' This month, he chose Take Me Out To The Ballgame from Stampin' Up!

I don't know a single person who is into baseball, LOL,

and neither my husband, Son-in-law (father to my granddaughter), his dad, etc are baseball fans so this masculine Father's Day card

 will go into the church drop off bin :) 

My friends Barb and Jeanette are playing along with me in this card challenge

Stamp What?! ~ Pattern of Friendship!

Hi friends!

This is my card for the Stamp What?! card group ~

started by my teenage son :)

Nope, he's not IN it, just INSPIRED it!

Back in the day, I used a lot of my Stampin' Up! stamp sets ...

the old wooden ones that sat upon a shelf 

and earning the secured name of "Old Dusties!"

 

As per each month, I'm showing the stamp set, too!

I'm not using stamped images and own the actual stamp sets. 

 I never know which one he is going to take down

 from the shelf and surprise me with.

Each month, it's way WAY fun! 

 

 This month, he chose Pattern of Friendship ~

a sweet stamp set from 2006!

As almost always, I asked him how he choses ~

sometimes just grab and go to get back to his PS4, lol

Other times, he looks at them and picks for a reason, like this month.

He simply said "It looked like a couple of moms - and it's Mother's Day.'

That works for me!

I'm not super excited about my card this time 

but it was fun to ink it up again.

This is the front - using the two patterned dresses

and one of the sentiments 'Always in style!"

I've used an MFT Stamps Stitched rectangle corner die 

paper pieced her dress from these sheets in my stash and done!

My mom still has all her old McCalls patterns 

that she used to make most of my baby outfits and childhood dresses.

I remember growing up with her pinning those off-yellow, crinkly patterns

to material and cutting it out,

and then heading off to the sewing machine.

She still has them in an old box ...
I told her once 'those would fetch a price on eBay' ...

to which she replied "what's an eBay?"

LOL!

Stamp What? ~ Frogs 'n Flies!

Hi friends!

I'm back with another fun card in the Stamp What? blog series

and the card for March is all about frogs ~

and flies!

You can read how this started on the first blog post here,

[although I've needed to change the posting date to the 10th of each month.]

I asked my son this weekend to chose the newest Old Dusty

(what we call my long forgotten Stampin' Up sets)

and when he brought this one down the hall,

we both started cracking up!

He said "I chose this one because these frogs do be swag!"

Huh?

::: cue the teenager translation subtitle:  'Cute frogs!' :::

 

Ooooof.

I'd long forgotten this one!

I LOVED it when I saw it and thought it was hilarious.

The labels are now long gone but I do know it's circa 1998

so it's been around the pond for quite some time ♥

 

And here's my card :)

I had a very hard time coloring this 

and not so happy with my color choice for the frog.

In hindsight, I'd have colored it differently but moving on!

I decided to use some older Stampin' Up designer paper as well

to keep the feel of using older forgotten supplies.

This is from the 2008 Stampin' Up! Muirfield collection.

The updated twist is that I've used the newer dies on the market

and banner dies to pop up the sentiment.

I masked off with washi tape the flies to have just the wording

and the sketch is one from this century last week at Splitcoaststampers! 

 Because we 3 are crazy, Barb and Jeanette were

totally on board for this challenge as well.

I've purged so many of my Old Dusties through the years

but always have those 'favorites' that I'll part with last

when I'm done with stamping and paper crafting.

It's so much fun walking down memory lane and seeing stamps

that I haven't seen in awhile.

Even more fun is the surprise element since I can't pick the stamp set!

Give it a try, if you haven't!

Have someone reach for a stamp set or just pick one at random,

dust it off and modernize those Old Dusty stamp sets!
